Tanchui (also spelled Tanchoi) is a luxurious handwoven textile technique that was introduced to India through Parsi traders. Over time, it was adopted and perfected in Banaras (Varanasi), becoming a signature style of Banarasi sarees, floral Jaal with Paisley Brocade.
Weaving with extra weft silk threads (often multiple colours) to create intricate patterns. Because of the dense weaving, it doesn't require heavy zari to look opulent. Unlike brocade or kadwa, the reverse is clean and smooth, making the saree comfortable to wear.
