Tanchui (also spelled Tanchoi) is a luxurious handwoven textile technique that was introduced to India through Parsi traders and over time adopted and perfected in Banaras (Varanasi).
The weaving is done with extra weft silk threads (often multiple colours) to create intricate patterns. Because of the dense weaving, it doesn't require heavy Zari to look opulent. Unlike brocade, the reverse is clean and smooth, making the saree comfortable to wear.
